An example of learning from what you know:
One of our young students didn't learn area of a traingle just yet but he didn't know he knew it already! Here is how we bring it up.
"Whats the area of a triangle?" base(b) and height(h) are given.
"I don't know, didn't learn it"
"okey lets draw one"
"Its a rectangle, not a triangle"
"Agreed, but you know the area of this one?"
"yes - b x h "
"Okey, now"
"We have 2 triangles"
"Area of one of them?"
"I get it - 1/2 bxh"
Well, this is a simple example but speaks volumes - going one step above at a time from where you stand firm - but you need to keep climbing.
Bringing the mathematician in everyone of us....Light up your skills and let it shine on you.
One student asked , where is zero?Does it exist?
One answer is yes it is - Look at your phone dial, look at the $20 bill, look at anywhere numbers are written.
Okey! but can you show me something that is zero. I can show 1 pen, I can show 2 cars..I can show 10 candies..where is zero something.
Here comes the art of math - the wonders of imagination. Founding fathers of math created zero, is not real but yet we all see it everywhere. That single fact help to solve an enormous amount of problems in everyday life.
okey it doesn't exist as an object, yet, we cannot live without zero.
I'm small
I'm big
but where am I?
